Frequently Asked Questions
What is color banding?
Color banding appears when a display cannot smoothly transition between shades, showing visible "bands" of color in gradients. It is common on 6-bit panels and IPS monitors with lower bit depth. 8-bit and 10-bit panels show much smoother gradients.
What should I look for in the white/black tests?
On full white, look for uneven brightness (uniformity issues) or yellowish/bluish tints. On full black, look for backlight bleed โ patches of lighter areas, usually at the edges. IPS glow is normal on IPS panels.
