Frequently Asked Questions
How are words counted?
Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace (spaces, tabs, newlines). Consecutive whitespace counts as one separator. An empty or whitespace-only input returns a word count of zero.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time is calculated by dividing the word count by 200 words per minute, which is a widely accepted average adult reading speed. The result is rounded up to the nearest whole minute.
How are sentences detected?
Sentences are counted by detecting punctuation marks that typically end a sentence: periods (.), exclamation marks (!), and question marks (?). Abbreviations and decimal numbers may slightly affect the count.
How are paragraphs counted?
Paragraphs are detected by splitting the text on one or more blank lines (double newlines). Single line breaks within a block of text are not counted as a new paragraph.
Is there a character limit?
There is no hard character limit imposed by this tool. However, very large texts (millions of characters) may slow down the live update in some browsers. The tool works entirely in your browser, so performance depends on your device.
